[Note:  For a 1 page summary of this subject, go to Keep "The 8 Commandments" of the New Covenant.]

For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.  (Heb 7:12)

Summary: This page reviews what the New Testament (NT), New Covenant, says about keeping Jesus' Commandments (which includes most of the 10 Commandments, and a new commandment), and on keeping the Old Testament (OT), Old Covenant, law of Moses.

Goals: (spending eternity in heaven)

Jesus said:  Keep my commandments [in our hearts, not just to the letter of the commandment].  Paul said:  keep the righteousness of the law  (Rom 2:26); and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter (Rom 2:29). The first and great commandment:  Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord  (Mar 12:29):  Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  (Mat 22:37), and with all thy strength  (Mar 12:30, Luk 10:27), and with all thy might.  (Deu 6:4-5)  (also see Deu 10:12, Deu 30:6)  [ This commandment is paramount, perhaps summarizing the essence of the first 4 of the 10 commandments, which are not mentioned here.]

The second is like unto it,  Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.  (Mat 22:39, Mat 19:19, Mar 12:31,33, Luk 10:27, Rom 13:9, Gal 5:14, Lev 19:18, Mat 5:43)
On these two commandments [above] hang all the law and the prophets.  (Mat 22:40)

Jesus:  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  (Joh 13:34-35) Are Gentiles commanded to be circumcised, and to keep the law of Moses, to be saved?  (Act 15:1, Act 15:5No, according to the Council at Jerusalem below: Let no man therefore judge you in meat [by what you eat], or in drink, or in respect of an holyday [religious festival], or of the new moon [celebration], or of the sabbath daysWhich are a shadow of things to come; but the body [the reality, however] is of [found in] Christ.  (Col 2:16-17)

The Old Testament (OT), Old Covenant, law defines sin ("what sin is" and "what is sin").

The New Testament (NT), New Covenant, adds clarity and focus for our hearts, and clears up popular misconceptions among those intent on only "keeping the letter of the law." Remember the Goals: (spending eternity in heaven)
